She thought she was not worth loving
so she kept them at a distance,
always attracted to the unattainable
discarding the lovable.
She kept them at a distance
because she feared the day
they would find her bends and cracks,
her rough edges might cause bruises and scratches.
But she never once thought
maybe they already knew her flaws
loved her sharp pieces and rusted emotions
loved her dark corners and dismantled heart;
Maybe they already knew what she didn’t want them to know
They knew and they loved
the imperfect her
only her
always her.

Wow! We’re on Wikipedia? I’ve had a look and I’ll have a read of that entry when I have time. Thanks for letting me know! The Forest of Dean is on our doorstep and we have squirrels visit our hazel trees from there, along with many songbirds. It’s a truly lovely place and we walk there every day.

It does seem like a lovely place to stay. Here where I live we don’t have squirrels because
of so many houses but some monkeys did give us a visit today. It was indeed a hilarious day. 😀

I think this poem is about finding out that people love you in spite/because of your various grotesqueries. Which is cool. What’s less cool is that you don’t talk about the actual experience of that feeling, or what it means to you. The speaker here just narrates the fact of it, which I think is a real wasted opportunity.

I am happy you shared your views even if it was not a positive one. And what you said, I could have done that but I wanted to focus on the imperfections, tha part everyone ignores. And if you look close enough at the words again, nothing is merely factual. I can help you decipher the poem if you want.

Nice place. I must say. Named after Sacramento river, is it ??
LikeLike
Technically in Sacramento County, won’t be specific on the actual city or town for reasons.
I think the river’s named after the city, but Sacramento is nicknamed City of Trees, which is cool, the river’s cool, too.
Lived here many years, haven’t learned such history about it yet, I’m a slacker, but I’ll get to it, history’s important, useful.
Knowing the history of things is good for making it come alive and looking back at then and seeing the now and see how things changed and how they’re the same. History isn’t boring like some people assume.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Hahaha… yes. We do need to know our history. That reveals the true beauty lying underneath today’s chaos. I am too not that a good student of history but grasp a point or two whenever I can.
Sometimes I wish instead of reading about it why didn’t we have a time machine so we can experience it first hand. That would be super cool😜
LikeLiked by 1 person
But if we go back in time, we’d likely alter some detail on purpose or by accident. and that would affect the present once we go back to the present.
Do you mean like a time machine that we could use to watch, observe the past with no chance to change it, just to learn about it and enjoy it?
Books, paintings, photos and films/actual footage from the past is what’s available to us now and we should make use of it since we don’t have time machines 😀
